who we are
African Roots Band is a high-energy international Afro-beats ensemble founded in 2015 by Jackie Kamwendo, a passionate musician originally from Malawi, Southern Africa, now based in Lowell, Massachusetts. Fueled by a lifelong love for music and a desire to unite diverse cultures, Kamwendo brought together talented African artists living in different parts of the U.S.—each one deeply rooted in the rhythm, spirit, and soul of the continent.
What began as a flexible, part-time performance group has grown into a full-time professional band, blending traditional African sounds with gospel, soul, and modern Afro-fusion. African Roots Band celebrates African culture while connecting with audiences across cultures and generations.
